Poetry - Silver Linings

Silver Linings
"Look out for silver linings,"
That's something we were taught.
That in times of trouble, in times of need,
Not everything has come to naught.

And so I go
Through life's whims and woes
A hope often in mind,
That things would slowly but surely get better,
The little blessings to find.

Alas, I find
That this one lining
Defies all dispelling of woe
It is in fact, if I may say,
Be despair embodied in whole.

"Look out for silver linings,
And never despair," they said
But I for one can never rejoice
For the linings that line my head.
