Poetry - Company at Lunch

Company at lunch
I had some company at lunch today,
They weren’t all too bad.
They laughed they jested they munched they slurped
And divulged all they had.

The stories they told were varied and long
Of girlfriends of videogames of popular songs;
Of that graded assignment so impossible to do,
Of CCAs of GPAs and catching the flu.

But soon, alas, it was time to leave
And with my tray I go,
But nary a word or hint of regard
Was I obliged to show.

I had some company at lunch today,
They weren’t all too bad.
Except I never knew them and wished

They were the friends I never had.
